Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

In general IU will only notify you if you are awarded something at this stage. They stated in an email? recently that they were on track for non-need based awards by March 15. That’s really only SSA other than some very small in-state scholarships. GSA scholarships are very very very small on average and amounts other than a few in-state need based ones.

IU does a poor job IMO of communicating the very low likelihood of merit with applicants hopeful of another merit announcement. Dean’s/Provost is the primary and only award for almost everyone.

Would you think it increases a students liklihood of getting a scholarship if they have enrolled with the $100 deposit? Or is it generally expected that families would hold off on official enrollment until the full financial package is presented. I hesitate to have my student enroll until we have seen the actual cost, however, we know he will attend and dont want to miss out on scholarships because he has not firmly committed. This is our first go around with all of this so I am not sure the best route to take. The housing deposit has been submitted. Any insight would be helpful. Son is DA Kelley through petition if that matters when considering scholarships. Thanks!

It will matter zero on scholarships if you enroll deposit or apply to housing at any point.

You would already know through Kelley if you were one of the very few students on their radar to attend and receive money. Kelley feels pretty darn good it will fill the class with 26,000 deserving applicants without additional non-need aid.

You might be pleasantly surprised, I hope so. But most will not. Especially OOS. The key is not to be disappointed like it’s somehow personal. Not all that different from the sorority discussion. If you have expectations and will be negatively impacted by those expectations not met - it’s our own fault allowing the expectations to exist in the first place.

IU is not looking one second at your demonstrated interest on the scholarship side.

My son heard this weekend that he made the Media Scholars Honors Program in The Media School and received an additional scholarship from completing the SSA. I don’t see many posts about the Media School but he was a Direct Admit and Deans Scholarship recipient. We are OOS and he is still deciding, so no deposits yet.

Congrats! Did he petition for honors?

Sorry wanted to clean up that response a bit after looking at the letter they sent. They indicated specifically for The Media School that filling out the SSA was the criteria for being considered for two of their honors programs. We went to a red carpet day a couple of weeks ago and they did mention we would hear back on their decision by this week.

Congratulations! My daughter is also accepted to The Media School. She filled out the SSA but has not heard anything. IU is her 1st choice and she would commit in a heartbeat, but I would like to see the financials before she accepts.

Thanks, we are waiting on an honors petition for arts and sciences and SSA. Hoping soon!

Anyone heard back from SSA yet? (I am a Kelly direct admit). Thank you.

Nothing here (HLS direct admit).

any deferred people hear back yet?

No, still waiting. Last year’s thread showed a couple of people getting decisions between March 9 (Thursday) and March 13 (Monday). We should hear any time within the next week.

same! (school of social work)

weird timeline…weekends?

What I meant was that two posters reported deferral decisions on those two dates, and so there was some activity by the school during that timeframe (but not necessarily on the weekend)

Was kinda expecting to hear back before IU’s spring break started

So they said SSA merit would be out by March 15. Are they not working next week, or did we just not get any more?
