Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

When is freshman move-in date this year? Is it just a day or I can move in during a period of few days? Do parents usually stay during the whole period or just the day I move in. Trying to coordinate both parents and our extended families’ summer schedule.

Aug 18-20.

Some freshman-related questions. Hoping this is the correct forum.

  1. Is there any studying that needs to be done for Placement exams for Math and English (New Student Orientation)? What is covered in those exams?
  2. Is it recommended to take Finite / Calculus during summer (before starting school in Fall)? If yes, will any community college do or it has be an Indiana specific-one?

Thanks!

thanks. was that confirmed post enrollment? We are sending deposit tonight and I want to get one of those few hotel rooms left. Of course they are all non-refundable with inflated rates

We booked a refundable room at Candlewood suites for around $225 a night . Thought that was pretty good!

Thank you!

My OOS daughter rushed. The only rec submitted was from me - and she still had a successful rush. And she ended up going to final rounds at houses other than mine. So you can rush with or without recs. I will confirm that rush was very tough on many girls. Many more girls rush than spots available. Houses have to cut many perfectly nice, charming candidates.

In 2023…IU data page shows 1964 girls registered for formal rush. By the end- 1266 were given bids. So prepare a PNM / go in with the best of intentions — but do not take a negative outcome too personally. It’s a fast, sometimes imperfect process. And there are limited resources to go around. More than 35% of girls who registered did not complete rush and/or get a bid.

I have a Purdue junior & IU freshman. Moving into a dorm takes about an hour tops. Seriously. My son was happy for us to exit town almost immediately. My daughter- we moved in, went to lunch- then parted ways. Everything beyond that hour is personal choice. Do you want a quick trip to Target for some supplies or gear before leaving? Do you want help setting up a tv or laptop before parting? Do parents want to see campus a bit before leaving?? Personal choice. I am a hug & leave quick type… but you do you.

My daughter is a Kelley freshman. Listening to her, I feel like the vibe is healthy competitive. Not cutthroat… does that help? She is frequently working on group projects. I feel like the program requires collaboration to succeed. Some clubs are tough to get into (interview rounds, etc). Students may have to apply more than one semester to get in. In the meantime… there are more open clubs. They still host development events and competitions to work on skills and presentations.
I have a Purdue Engineer- so I cannot speak confidently to Business school at Purdue- other than I’ve met some nice, smart kids in the business program.
Also .
Recognize that IU student body is 30% business students.
Purdue is 30% engineering. 9% business undergrad.
The campuses have distinctly different personalities. If you can visit- it might tell your student the answer.
Both quality Big 10 schools.

We “just” got an email about the Kelley Vanguard Scholar on the high school email id (one registered on the application portal). It’s $5K/year. The email says it’s given based on “outstanding academic experience and personal achievements”. I would think it’s based on the GSA application we filled out. Along with $8K Dean’s scholarship, we’re looking pretty good.

While we didn’t hear anything after the deadline for SSA announcements, we also just heard about a new scholarship award (can’t remember the name) through HamiltonLugar for $5k, plus a small bump in direct admit student scholarship.

Interesting…did you get that in the student’s IU account or the email they used for Common App?

It was an email to his personal account. They also mentioned the letter would be mailed this week.

Thanks! Is it already reflected in their portal/Finance section?

Have you already committed to IU when the award was given? thx

Have you already committed to IU when the award was given? Wondering if that makes a difference.

No, we haven’t committed. To be honest, I am not sure my student will end up there, but it was nice to hear he got some more money.

Yes, we have. But it was also given to a friend of my son who hasn’t committed yet.

How do you submit a Kelley Petition Request?
