Indians... How to pay for NSEOF? URGENT

A very straightforward questions…

I’m an Indian, and obviously don’t have an account in an American bank.

So, how do I pay the NSEOF payment?

One person suggested to do this:

 1. Write a check from my Indian bank account to an American bank account
 2. Go to Bank of America branch here in India, and convert the check to a Demand Draft
 3. Send the DD

Will this work?

Any other alternatives?

Thanks

s a service to all new students, First Year Programs staff are on hand to answer questions and concerns regarding anything about your transition to the UW — including the fee and what it involves.
Or, if you have somebody in the US, you can ask them to pay for you (and you can just transfer them money.)

@seatac: I have no one in the US.

Any other method, that’s been tested and worked for anyone else?

Since you said this is an urgent issue (the title of your topic), I really think you should just call/email the contact that seatac provided. You would get the correct answer on how to proceed right away.

If it wasn’t urgent, then it’d be appropriate to bounce around ideas for days. Since it is, call/email them.

GeekZu,

You can go to any bank in India that has a U.S. affiliate. The website says, “Any bank check or money order issued by a major foreign bank with a U.S. affiliate will be fine.” A few banks that should work for you are ICICI, Bank of America, Bank of India. Those all have affiliate banks in the USA so should work. Just call your bank or look online to see if they have a US affiliate.

Yes, you can send in a demand draft. They don’t call it that in the USA, but it’ll work just fine. In the USA they call it a cashier’s check or money order, but it works the same. Be sure to send it to the address listed on the form. I recommend you send it via courier so you can track it and ensure it arrives at UW.

Ideally, you will also send in your I-20 Request Form at the same time, but if you can’t do that, you can send in the I-20 Request Form later. It really is best to do them together, if possible.

Hope this helps!

Okay… I think I’ve got it fixed. One more question: When and how much do we need to pay for housing?

And are there any other fee to be paid before the tuition (that is due in Sept)?

If you are applying for on-campus housing, there is a $500 deposit (I believe) that you need to make when you apply. For new students, the application is available on May 8 after 2 pm. The deposit can not be a credit card, but the quarterly fees can be.

Room and board for Fall quarter is due Sept 1. Rates are here:

[UW Housing and Food Services > Housing Options](<a href=“Housing & Food Services - UW HFS”>Housing & Food Services - UW HFS)

there is an option to defer the NSEOF till the start of the quarter in September. you might want to look into doing that so it gives you time to set up a US bank account.

Okay I got the DD. WIll send the stuff tomorrow now.

@cellopop:

Thanks for the info. And are there any other fee to be paid before the tuition? I mean is there anything that is needed to be paid BEFORE July?

I don’t recall when/how A&O fees are paid. I think the parent orientation (if they attend) is rolled into your Fall tuition.

What’s A&O?

And housing can be paid after June/July also. Right?
