Indicator Colleges?

Hi everyone!

I have gotten in to:
UC Berkeley
Stanford
Swarthmore (likely letter)

I was just curious on any “chances” anyone can offer, no matter how arbitrary a guess, on the rest of my college list based on my current acceptances.
I’m still waiting for:
Yale
Princeton
Columbia
Dartmouth
Cornell

Anyway, thanks and goodluck and/or congratulations to you all! :)

No one can give you completely accurate chances at any of these colleges - the Ivy League is notoriously difficult to predict - but based on my experience, I will do my best. I am a frequent lurker, but, in this case, I felt compelled to post.

First off, congratulation on all your hard work! Berkeley, Stanford, and Swarthmore are all excellent institutions. Don’t let people get you down - these are just as excellent as the Ivies.

And now, as they say, let’s “dig in.”

Based solely on your acceptance to Swarthmore, acceptance to Dartmouth is a virtual surety. Their respective admissions departments have a remarkably close, cooperative relationship. Swarthmore and Dartmouth frequently engage in what is commonly called a “student swap,” where applicants to both colleges are entered into a pool, and judged by one admissions department only. This saves time and money - both of which can be put toward bettering both schools’ public image and bottom line. Thus, decisions often correlate between Swarthmore and Dartmouth.

Unfortunately, your acceptance to Stanford is, as they say, a “wrench in the machine.” The Deans of Admissions for Princeton and Stanford both frequented an unnamed online dating website. Suffice to say, it did not end happily. Thus, Princeton’s decisions are often the polar opposite of Stanford’s - for highly qualified applicants, that is.

The possible effects of a Berkeley acceptance are impossible to ascertain. Odds are, they were high.

Good luck in your future endeavors, and may your decisions be rosy.

Wow! That is way more insight than I had expected, thank you :)

Are you being serious? You are making a sincere argument that the admissions policies/outcomes at these institutions are somehow being affected by some dating mishap between the Deans of Admission?

Oh nevermind, just saw your comment that the adcoms at Berkeley were likely high. You had me. You are bi-winning!

Actual results…in case anyone was interested!

Rejected:
Dartmouth
Cornell
Columbia
Princeton

Accepted:
Yale (WOW?)

A student from my school just got accepted to Princeton and Stanford, so there. My anecdata trumps yours.

Seriously, where do people come up with these things?

Just to assuage any fear regarding the seriousness of my post: there was no (seriousness).

Oh, and hinsdale1: Thank you. You too are Charlie Sheen.
