blahblahblah there too many good movies

gto, “my sassy girl”!!!

Pt Anderson is love.

I’d also add Adaptation to this list just because I like it so much (Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze are love as well).

infernal affairs is great. battle royale is so damn popular now. anything by wong kar wai and good ol’ john woo.

Haha! Why thank you, ptmagnolia – if you have the taste to appreciate a non-lover of Garden State, I may have to look up some of those movies you suggested…

awesome. if you wanna chat about movies or anything, you can AIM me at WeMetOnTheLevel. :-)

Il Mare (Korean)
Windstruck (Korean, speeds up 2nd half)
Amelie (French)
Chocolat (American - in English)
Motorcycle Diaries (Spanish)
Howl’s Moving Castle (Japanese, Hiyao Miyazaki film =P)

To those who’ve seen “Spirited Away” (and enjoyed it), you simply must watch “Howl’s Moving Castle.” In short,

Howl’s Moving Castle >>> Spirited Away.

Then again, I don’t want to hype it up too much ;-).

Cheers!

No waaaaaay. Spirited Away was 100x better.

But 1 recommendation: if you watch either of them, watch them in Japanese w/ the subtitles. The English voice actors don’t capture the feeling of the movies AT ALL.

I LOVED Spirited Away! Maybe that is why I bought it, and I don’t buy movies generally! I just liked the complex plots that it had. It was such a great movie!

Dear Frankie! It’s so sweet! Also anything by Quinten Tarintino, although I know most of his movies are mainstream now, but a lot of them used to be Sundance only.

ctrain890 - Spriited Away was good, but the dubbing killed it for me, it made the movie dry. Hah. HMC’s dubbing was much better. Will pick up subbed versions later then, I guess =P.

^Addition: My Sassy Girl. Forgot about that one - laughed til my cheeks hurt! Haha

I second Apocalypse Now and Dr. Strangelove. A Midsummernight’s Sex Comedy is interesting, Woody Allen is always worth a shot, and other fun ones I like are: State and Main, The Cat’s Meow, and How to Kill Your Neighbor’s Dog (not that bad!).

Oh yeah! Woody Allen movies can be really funny. This isn’t a standard Woody Allen movie at all, but try “What’s Up Tiger Lily” if you want to laugh your head off at like… 10 really really stupidly funny scenes. (He took a bad Japanese movie and dubbed a different story over it, and sometimes it’s just hilarious)

^ Manhattan is awesome

Well yes, that would be the ‘standard Woody Allen movie’ variety of awesomeness…mmmmhm!

united states of leland, memento, the following (by the same director as memento), fight club (i think…), magnolia, moulin rouge, american beauty (?..i dunno, for some reason i feel inclined to lump it in here), 50 first dates, anything tarantino

‘my sassy girl’ was kinda cute but there was something about it that i wasn’t into.

‘my little bride’ (korean) is far superior - must see!

oh, and ‘in july’ (german) is amazing.

i could go on. i watch too many foreign films. i have a subtitle fetish.

<3,

Izzie Bear

Requiem for a Dream is really good. Elephant, too. And KIDS by Larry Clark-it’s a really good movie!!

I’ve seen and loved most of the movies people mentioned here, which makes me really happy. In particular, Y tu Mama Tambien, Velvet Goldmine, Trainspotting, the Dreamers, Roger Dodger, Amelie, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Before Sunrise (and don’t forget Before Sunset too!), Goodbye Lenin and the Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.
As for movies I can actually contribute and not just repeat:
Party Monster (so glad Macauley is back)
Tadpol
Speedway Junky
Secretary (always in the mood for some good dirty fun. James Spader…)
Lawn Dogs
L.I.E.
Rain
Boys Don’t Cry
American History X
Sex, Lies and Videotape (Once again, James Spader…)
Amateur
St. Clara
Blue Citrus Hearts (I think this movie was edited on some guys Mac)
Just saw Mysterious Skin last night. Really intense.
Lastly, if anyone out there has seen New Waterford Girl, and loved it as much I did, let me know!

Actually lastly, my sister and I both post on this site and both of the names we used (e.g. DoItForJohnny) are from the same movie/book. Figure out what movie and who she is, you get a gold star!

City of God
