I am going to Indonesia in June as a graduation present to myself (getting my doctorate in May). My plan is to fly into Bali, fly to Komodo National Park, get onto a boat, and do a guided swim every day, about 5K. This will take a week. I have another week. My son live in Australia and I’d like to spend some of a second week with him and meeting him somewhere (swimming week is with DD). His home is Sydney and I have been there twice. I am thinking of either spending more time in Indonesia or going to the top of Australia or the great barrier reef. Which would you do or which have you done? Other suggestions?
Congrats! Sure sounds like fun, whatever you do! Can’t wait to hear all about it!
Ubud in Bali is beautiful and fun to visit. We spent several days there and went white-water rafting one day, took a silver-smithing workshop, watched an evening dance performance (the Kecak and fire dance - really cool), did a several-hour downhill bike ride through orchards and small villages and rice fields, and visited a monkey forest. We went before Mt. Agung started erupting and I’m not sure what the current status of that is. Ubud is out of the lava area but might have issues with air quality if it erupts again.
