Induction cookware

Starting a kitchen renovation project in a month or two. (Hooray!). One thing that I’m doing is making the switch from a smooth top electric stove to induction. So, I’ll need new cookware.

Anyone have experiences to share or a specific set to recommend? Not really looking to use cast iron, although I know people love it.

Congratulations, I think you will love it. There is nothing quite like the precision and control of induction. It is finally becoming popular enough in the US to have lots of options for cookware. You can likely find something similar to whatever you liked before, just search for an induction friendly version. For regular stainless, I have tried everything from expensive to low priced Target pots and I find them to be similar. You can choose based on your preferences for handles, weight, etc. For non stick pans, I am a huge fan of ozeri stone earth induction friendly. Ozeri.com : Stone Earth Series
They are light weight, non toxic, don’t flake at all and so easy to clean. I have had the same set for 5 years and are good as new.

We bought an induction range (Miele) for our vacation home where we’re staying while contractors are doing repairs to the heating systen in our main house. An easy way to tell if your existing pots and pans will work with the induction stove is to see if a magnet clings to the bottom of the pan. If it does, it’ll work. I was pleased to find that my LeCreuset pans work with the induction stove.

They aren’t cheap but most of the AllClad stainless steel pans work beautifully on my induction cooktop. As someone else pointed out, you just need to test any cookware you aren’t sure of by applying a small magnet. If it sticks, it will work but honestly most cookware will be labeled as to whether it is induction friendly.

If I ever redo my kitchen, I want All Clad. But I’m not sure I would spend three times the cost when Tramontina gets such rave reviews.

I will say, I have a couple of All Clad pieces and I do really like them.
