Industrial Engineering at NCSU Vs Gatech for 3 years. Completed 1st yr at NCSU

Need some guidance. Is it worth doing Industrial Engineering at GaTech (out of state) Vs pursuing that major at NCSU (in state - tution waived for 4 years). Completed 1st year at NC State.

Questions is… How did your first year go at NC State? What are you trying to accomplish by transferring and paying more money? Plus it seems like you have a full ride?

My son graduated Michigan in IOE (Industrial and Operations Engineering). His cohort where from GT, UIUC, Penn State, University of Cincinnati and some small college. He works internationally with people with similar degrees from Universities you never heard of. All capable.

Not having any debt to me is huge. You will thank yourself later.

If you and your family are wealthy and no financial impact at all. I would ask the same questions. Not all your classes are going to transfer most likely. Are you willing to retake some classes?

Son is an ISyE grad. Great program but hard to beat no tuition at NC State. Is there some concentration at GT you can’t get at NC State?

I’d have a hard time justifying the cost. You might be able to graduate in 2 years, especially with significant AP/DE credits. GT seemed to be pretty fair with transferring credits.

NC State tuition-free is hard to beat; it’s not as if it has a weak reputation. For less money than you’d spend by transferring and completing your undergrad at GT, you could finish your BSIE at NCSU and go to GT for a masters.
