Industrial Engineering

I am a current sophomore in high school and I want to show the AOs my passion for industrial engineering. What kind of ECs would correspond to this particular interest? Would it be a correlation of business(economics) and engineering?

My son went to Michigan for IOE (Industrial and Operations engineering).
High School was Chess team, chess tutor, track. He was a peer to peer math tutor also. He took microeconomics as a senior. But he had the most math the school offered and same with physics. He took mulitvariate Calc and Physics BC.

He did go to a few engineering camps in the summer that were like a week long to learn about engineering.

So do what interests you.

As far as businesses and such. He went to auctions as a kid and was the only minor bidding against adult’s and mostly jewelers and coin experts. He wanted specific coin 1870(I think) half dollar and he resold these online for a profit. He actually did well with it.

So my point is do things that interests you and you enjoy. Don’t take classes or do activities thinking it will help you get into college. Hope that makes sense.

The best ECs are the things that interest you. Band, sports, part time job, walking dogs at the shelter. Whatever interests you. Maybe your town has a program for high school students to learn about infrastructure ?

Many colleges don’t care about ECs at all (just grades and / or test) and those that do want to see passion in what you’re doing. They needn’t be tied to a major or academic in any way whatsoever.

Good luck.

You don’t need ECs to match your potential major. Do things in your school/community that interest and excite you and strive to make meaningful contributions. Also note that a part-time job is also a well regarded EC.
