inflamatory essay topics?

So I already wrote my common app essay, but my yale supplement is due literally this week. I know I won’t have a problem getting it done in time, that’s not the issue. the issue is that I originally wrote about my anxiety disorder, but my mom pointed out (and I agree with her), that it may dissuade them from accepting me because they may worry that I won’t be able to handle an ivy league school, so I’m trying to do a new topic.
a) religion. I was raised Jewish, but have since converted to Wicca, and I was thinking of writing an essay that talks about how I grappled with reconciling my Jewish cultural heritage with my pagan religious views, which I feel could show a lot of different sides of me and would probably be the more unique option, HOWEVER, I’ve heard it can be risky to write about religion?
b) running. I’ve been a long distance runner for four years now, and I could write about how my team helped me to come out of my shell, how running made me more comfortable with accepting challenges and striving for what I want regardless of how hard it might be, and about running as therapeutic, especially long runs through the woods and how that gave me a better sense of my place in the world. it’s a safer topic, but also more common. Then again, it also shows strength of character?

which one would you recommend choosing?

I would say running, however the Wiccan one might make you stand out more. Butttttt I feel you can write a very interesting piece on running, and you’re more likely to get a reader who is also a distance runner than someone who will “get” your Wicca essay :)
