influence of a principal?

How much influence does a principal have personally calling an admissions office to talk about an applicant (in a highly positive way)? Does this happen often?

More effective if he put it in writing, a glowing LOR ,if he is trying to improve your chances of getting admitted.

Curious as to why writing is better? Would it be seen as another recommendation or just an additional piece of paper that the school would see? I feel putting it on paper is too much to ask for…

I was wondering about this too, especially if it’s a small school.

Because your principal likely won’t be talking to the person who reads your file and they won’t be looking at the application right in front of them, so it’s kind of like the only thing that they can do is write a note “student had strong support from principal via phone.”

quick question, ive done most of my stuff online… how do i mail an additional teacher rec for example, just stick it in an envelope addressed to admissions office? do i need to include anything with details about who i am, name address etc besides on envelope?

Not very, especially at top schools.
