Influences of National merit after freshman yr?

Does national merit help with graduate school admissions, or with transferring colleges during undergrad?

I remember reading on one of the threads recently that because of NMF status, that the poster’s son made $3 more per hour. And in grad school admissions, it was noticed (if I remember the post correctly).

It obviously does no harm :-). It’s an achievement to be proud of and to include.

I don’t know about grad school admission or transfer since the college grades and his/her accomplishment as an undergraduate might be more important. But I believe my son who got a summer internship as a freshman might be helped by his NMF status in his resume.

My son was the one who got an immediate $3/hr increase in his internship when they found out he had been a NMF.

Also, when he applied for another internship the next summer, he left the NMF off, and during the interview, the person mentioned that they’re supposed to give a priority to NMFs, so my son quickly mentioned that he had been one, but hadn’t included it on his resume. He got that job.

And, yes, when he applied to PhD programs, it was on his resume again (along with PBK and other awards). For some reason, NMF (and PBK) status follows you thru life in some areas.
