Howard Stern

Howard Stern, the most infamous radio personality of all time, also happens to be a misunderstood champion of human rights, particularly freedom of speech. His name is synonymous with vulgarity, crudeness, and what many believe to be what is wrong with our nation today, but even so Howard Stern has the right, given to him by the first amendment, to freedom of speech. So when government organizations, mostly the FCC, tried to take this right away he fought for what he believes in. This is what makes Howard Stern my inspiration.

As an avid listener of his show on Sirius satellite radio, which is not regulated by any government entity, I can say that Howard Stern is not only poignant on all most all issues domestic and foreign, but is also as smart and as insightful as any news broadcaster or television show host. Yet most Americans associate him with naked women and profanities, which don’t get me wrong, are a major part of the programming on his channel, and it is this fact which got him into a major and public battle with the FCC. So with his job on the line Howard Stern challenged the FCC and their obstruction of his first amendment rights. As an aspiring lawyer, this brash defense of his own rights resonates with me on a level of great importance because we as American citizens are entitled to the rights bestowed upon us in the constitution. Howard Stern stood up for what he believed in and in the end has prospered greatly, to me that is the American dream.
Stern is a social critic, he provides insight and a different point of view, and in a country filled with left versus right and more rhetoric than you can shake a stick at,

As an avid listener of his show on Sirius satellite radio, which is not regulated by any government entity, I can say that Howard Stern is not only poignant on all most all issues domestic and foreign, but is also as smart and as insightful as any news or television show host. Yet most Americans associate him with naked women and profanities, which don’t get me wrong, are a major part of the programming on his channel, but it is this fact that got him into so many major and public battles with the FCC. So with his job on the line Howard Stern challenged the head of the FCC and his obstruction of his first amendment rights while live on air. As an aspiring lawyer, this brash defense of his own rights resonates with me on a level of great importance, because we as American citizens are entitled to the rights bestowed upon us in the constitution. Howard Stern stood up for those rights and in the end has prospered greatly. To me that is as american as apple pie and maybe even Chevrolet, but lets not get too carried away. Stern is also a social critic, he provides a different insight and point of view, and in a country filled with left versus right and more rhetoric than you can shake a stick at, an outside opinion is more valuable than ever. With his firm and valid convictions Howard Stern represents the common man, giving them a voice as I hope to as a lawyer. He helps the thoughts of middle class working men be heard on a national level, holding a mega phone up to their otherwise whispering lips.
But most of all he makes waking up in the morning tolerable. When I hear the Rob Zombie intro song “American Nightmare” being pumped out of my alarm clock at Five A.M. every morning I am not filled with dread of the day ahead, but with excitement for the next thing Howard will say or what is planned for that day’s show. The Howard Stern show provides an escape from reality filling your morning commute with laughter, rather than the tears you should be shedding because your life sucks. That to me is the greatest public service one can provide. Howard Stern exudes controversy, he is rarely mentioned with out the phrase shock jock following shortly after. When in reality there is nothing shocking about him at all. He is just a man who believes that he should be allowed to say anything, no matter how crazy or controversial it may be, on the radio. The Stern show brightens the days of millions of Americans, and when the cloud of government shrouded the brightness Howard stern brought out the sun and let the light shine brighter than ever upon every american that is willing to pay fourteen ninety nine a month for a Sirius radio subscription.
With all of this one would think Howard Stern would be regarded as a national hero, rather than the scum of the underworld, but in our society one is entitled to free speech and with that comes the right to an opinion, so opponents of Howard Stern you can thank Howard Stern for helping you have the right to hate Howard Stern. That is why Howard Stern, the American nightmare, is my inspiration.
