This is worrying. Went from birds to cattle and now two humans.

Agreed. The actual cases aren’t the next Big One, but I am concerned that it has now infected different mammals, including humans, and if it mutates to have human to human transmission all bets are off. And the likelihood of such a mutation gets that little bit likelier with every mammalian/human infection.
Those bugs are going to survive all of us.
Reading up on this a bit as I saw that cattle one county over have tested positive for bird flu. ![]()
I think I will be buying locally sourced beef for awhile. It can’t hurt and we want to support them.
I, who worry about Worst Case Scenarios all the time, am not at all worried about beef or milk.
What I worry about is the increase of H5N1 infecting many different species of mammals, its ability to mutate to human to human transmission, and its lethality.
On the plus side, there’s apparently already a vaccine that can be modified to account for mutations.
Yes, of course, we don’t need any new viruses out and about. We already have more than enough and those of us with chronic conditions are extra vulnerable. ![]()

We like to worry about the Chinese wet markets, but we aren’t any better in many ways. A few years ago I got a drug resistant UTI which was caused by bad beef.
I pay attention to stories like this:
I’m glad I have quite enough eggs on hand and expect prices at stores will rise.
Apparently I am posting in the wilderness here ![]()
Lol, they can’t survive to without us though!

Something to watch:
I asked someone I know who has worked in their career in animal necropsy and also with cattle and now wild birds. He said that there could have been infections in mammals and humans but they weren’t testing for it. He said there is work being done on a rapid bird flu test that would give quick results. He said present test takes 48 hours.
