Infused water

My newest thing. We have a very good undercounter water filter, so we have great water to start with. I’ve been experimenting with additions, put in pitcher in the frig. The boys love it, and it reduces the amount of juice that they drink. I’ve tried:

orange slices and fresh mint
lemon slices, cucumber slices and fresh mint
orange slices, lime slices, grated ginger

Anyone else doing this?

I do this, too. Especially in the hottest months.

I like herb and citrus combinations. It sounds strange, but the flavor is light and refreshing.

Orange and basil
Cilantro and lime
Rosemary, cucumber and lemon
Anise stems and orange

Those sound wonderful! I wouldn’t have thought of those combinations. I’m going to try some this weekend.

By “anise stems” do you mean fennel? The solid part, not the fronds?

I also do combos with basil and citrus.

Strawberries and lime

Fresh pineapple and strawberry

Our favorite is still cucumber water.

Drink the citrus infused water with straws.
Acids erode teeth enamel.

Beerme, I will drink plain water in between my tequila shooters, is that OK?
;)

I bought a water bottle with a cup in the bottom. I just put one frozen strawberry in the bottom and let it sit overnight in the fridge and take it with me to the gym.

NYMomof2 - The anise I use comes from a flowering plant, not fennel. It has a similar flavor to fennel or licorice.

I’ve never seen it in a store. It grows wild in many areas of California. I grab it from vacant lots when we visit California - lol. It keeps for a few weeks in the fridge.

My daughter started drinking water with some lemon juice last summer. At her next dentist appointement, she had 8 cavities. Scary! And expensive!

Toledo, as a side note…I have recently developed an intolerance to sulfites/preservatives and have learned that the juice from the bottled or plastic lemon is loaded with them and is also a main aggravator of many asthma attacks.

I love the infused water idea. Do you guys wash your citrus/cucumber first or remove the peel/skin?

I peel and slice the cucumber . Our infuser pitcher also suggested filling the pitcher with lukewarm water and then refrigerating for a few hours - seems to help infuse the flavor.

I drink green tea when I can brew a large jar and keep refilling with hot water throughout the day. Works great regardless of season. :)
