Innercity Kid. Screwed?

So I go to a fairly large innercity school in MN. My schools in order are:

 1. Emerson College
 2. Brown University
 3. Boston University
 4. Hampshire
 5. Naropa
 6. U of MN - TC (legacy student here. both parents for undergrad and grad, and my father is a professor)

I have a 3.65 GPA and am ranked 40/500something. My ACT is a 31 and my SAT is a 1910 (670-570-670).

In terms of extra curriculars I have four years of theater, working on every production (approx 8 a year), being artistic or management staff on every show since sophomore year, and being year long staff for the past three years. I am also in quizbowl, am ranked number one in my district, and am always in the top 10 of statewide competitions. I have also been nationally ranked.

I also am a member of our schools Silver Ribbon Campaign, Gay-Straight-Alliance and our GLBTQ Support Group. I have worked as a repair tech at a local computer shop, and as an intern at a local theater and dance company.

In terms of APs, I got a 5 on Stat, and a 2 on APUSH. My class schedule is as follows:
Freshman year:
Frosh Comp, Film Studies, Open Bio, World Studies, Geometry, Robotics, Latin 1, Intro to Drafting
Sophomore year:
Honors Chem, Advanced Algebra 2, Latin 2, Guthrie Active Teen Ensemble (a theater course taught in collaboration with a Tony winning theater), Photo, and an English IP, APUS
Junior year:
College In The Schools Micro Econ, Government, Psychology, Guthrie Active Teen Ensemble, Statistics, Latin 3, Honors Physics, College in the Schools Intro to Literature
Senior Year:
AP Chemistry, Latin 4, Health 1, Health 2, Gym 1, Gym 2 (all are grad reqs), APHuG, Stock Market and Investing, Theater of the Absurd IP, Shakespeare.

I know my numbers aren’t very good, but I have a strong theater portfolio, and I am a pretty good writer in my opinion. What are my chances?

I don’t know about the others, but I’d say your chances at Brown are very low.

Inner city kid from an underrepresented state? I believe you have an excellent chance at all but Brown and a reasonable chance there. Especially if you’re also first generation.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat and seeing as I just got into Emerson I’d say your in there. And at Hampshire (they are a little strange out there, I got offered a spot by an admissions counselor when I went on tour, she thought I was her interviewee, and within like two sentences and hearing my GPA she’s was like I hope we see you in 2009, send in all your information for housing documents. I had no idea what was going on) so based on my experience you are definitely in at Hampshire and probably Boston too.

Well, what you have to realize is that there are thousands of students across the nation and even overseas that are heavily involved in theater. Many have better grades as well. Based on your numbers, I say you’re in Hampshire and maybe BU…but perhaps Brown is pushing it.

ooo and you’re in UMinn no question.

I wasn’t aware that MN was underrepresented. I can’t say much about the UMN, it’s getting pretty competitve.
