Inserting italics or underlined text?

I’m ready to submit the supplement to Stanford but one of my essays has text that’s italicized and underlined. The supplement doesn’t allow a file to be uploaded, they only have space for plain text to be entered. This formatting is necessary to the essay and really wouldn’t make sense without it. What can I do?

a) E-mail the essay to them. Another school let me e-mail it to them…but Stanford is closed until Jan 4th so I can’t contact them to confirm this is okay.
b) Put it in the additional info part of the application. I’m not sure if Stanford will allow it. They don’t seem to like anything additional so I’m afraid they might not look at it, even if it’s actually supposed to be part of the supplement.
c) Use it as my main common app essay (I REALLY like this essay) and write another essay to take its place on the supplement.

Which is the best option? Or is there anything I’m overlooking?
