Inside the Admission Office

does anyone have that link to a chrisitan science monitor article…it has the transcript of an actual discussion of admit officers during one of their sessions…im not sure if it was princeton or penn thatwas the school featured…anyway…anybody have that article?

No idea what you’re talking about but that would be interesting to read.

yeh it was a really cool article cuz i distinctly remember how they weighed out each applicant…

i remember seeing it one of the threads a while ago…i asked the penn ppl too…

I don’t know…it’d be kind of scary how arbitrary it is.
I think they really have tough jobs though. In our college counseling groups at school we had to play the role of adcoms and accept/reject this imaginary applicants. It was fun, but so random!

got it! http://csmonitor.com/cgi-bin/durableRedirect.pl?/durable/1998/12/15/fp11s1-csm.shtml

tell me if it works…cuz mine seems to be blank

it works for me; I haven’t read it yet, but it’s about UPenn and 1998 so that’s automatically a decrease of interest, lol. And I’m at work looks around nervously

u think u could copy the article whenever you’re not busy and paste it on a post for me? if you can’t its fine…i kno what its like to be weary of the boss

Oh surely (I have to do it in sections since CC limits posts to 10000 characters apparently)

CC has way too many rules. bahh

Almost there…

And that’s it. I hope it helps.

wow ur awesome…sorry bout the long reply…i was taking a nap :)

You’re welcome :D

thx! i actually read the whole thing. :p

Here’s an excellent video on the admissions process that I found
http://pbs-newshour.virage.com/cgi-bin/visearch?user=pbs-newshour&template=template.html&query=amherst&viKeyword=amherst&category=0&submit=Search

wow… i read that entire article… anymore articles like that? (it was so interesting)…
any that are about columbia?

Interesting. Says “Eight days are all Penn’s small committee has to review a record 2,166 “early decision” applicants to one of America’s most selective universities - and to decide who will be accepted, denied, or deferred for reconsideration in the spring.” I would suppose that this year it would be 11/22 to 12/3. A decent amount of wait for receipt of all apps materials, Nov test scores etc. and a decent amount of time for the Finaid office to do their work.
