The deadline for applying to the Urban Immersion program is coming up, but I haven’t been able to decide whether or not to sign up for it. If anyone who has participated in it could offer any insight into the program, I would greatly appreciate it!

I would also greatly appreciate any feedback on the following questions:

1) Did you feel like the program was worth your time?
2) Did you feel safe?
3) Was it fun?
4) What did you feel you got out of the program? (friends, better acquaintance with Houston, etc)

Thank you! :)

okay. so I’m someone who didn’t do UI and I actually really regret it. Many of my friends who did UI are still friends with each other and they all say they had a wonderful time. UI is a great chance to meet a few people before the craziness of O-Week sets in, plus if you’re coming from a small town it’s nice to be able to get used to Houston for a little while.

everyone i know who did UI LOVED IT. probably more than they loved o-week. DO IT.

As a former UIer, I can tell you it is better than O-Week.

Plus, it was comforting to have a good group of friends at Rice before I even matriculated. Definitely one of the best decisions of my life.

Where do you find the info on UI? I went around the web site a couple of times and could only find the application.

@ bird rock: The UI information should have came in the “deposit confirmation package” that includes the summer reading book, information on required immunizations, etc. If your son did not receive it yet, here is a link to a program description: [Rice University Community Involvement Center](http://cic.rice.edu/UrbanImmersion/). Here’s also a link to a 2007 flyer: http://cohesion.rice.edu/campusservices/oweek/emplibrary/UrbanImmersion2007.pdf

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback! I turned in my application and mailed my check yesterday. Now all I have to do is wait and hope I get admitted into the program. :]
