Inspired by thread on CC - sending son to get haircut all by himself!

<p>I read that thread on what you need to teach your child before they go off to college and realized that we are WAY behind. So today, Son is driving himself to Great Clips all by himself to get his haircut. It’s a bit risky, because he has his Senior yearbook picture in about 10 days…but that’s one to check off the list!</p>

<p>I know, some of you are saying that you can’t believe a parent has gone with him all this years…but hey, gotta start sometime!</p>

<p>LOL–just remember to let him know you have to give the barber a tip. I was surprised when my S came home with too much change --until I realized he hadn’t given a tip. It was a good teachable moment.</p>

<p>DD’s first “independent” dinner with friends (they were all 13-14) left their waiter tipless. They were totally clueless, since it turned out that neither of the girls paid attention to what the parents have been doing when they paid for their meals. Well, it was a lesson for them, but at the waiter’s expense.</p>

<p>missypie, that is a great start for your boy! Soon he’ll be tackling doctor’s appointments and whatever else life throws at him!</p>

<p>Bunsen…the first time I went out with friends (had to be about 14 or so), we LEFT a tip. Later that evening one of the friends held up some money and said “who left this on the table?” </p>
