Insurance Industry?

Me: Lurker on these boards for about 4 months now.

Undergrad: BS Chemical Engineering

Work Experience: 8 years large Biotech/Pharma engineering experience

MBA: Class 2009, EMBA with respected local school

Skills: Personable, Quantitative, Quick to learn (motivated), Creative, Professional, and Ethical… not your average bookworm engineer.

I’ve been approached by a friend who is in the insurance industry about coming to work with/for him for a Fortune 100 company in a management roll. I have expressed an interest to get into Project and/or Supply Chain management, and have considered asset and risk management opportunities before. I told them I wasn’t interested in a sales job, and they told me it wasn’t a sales position. So, what is it? (shows my ignorance)

How does the insurance industry look right now? Also, why would someone hire an Engineer into this industry? Or, more importantly, why was I approached? They know I am going for my MBA so the opportunity looks appealing, I’m just worried if I could do the job, as I know very little about this industry. Any advice or direction would be helpful.

Thanks.
