Interdisciplinary Programs

I really need some help. I am really interested in business as well science and I think my dream job would combine both of them. I have looked at Penn’s Engineering and Wharton Degree (Jerome Fisher Program) as well as the Life Science and Management Program. Those are programs that I am looking for and would love to go there. They are incredibly difficult to get into do I am looking for those programs at different schools. I know Lehigh has a program for Business and Engineering too. I really need help! Anyone know of any other colleges that offer programs similar to these?

Thanks!

I don’t think you need a formal program. First of all, many scientists and engineers start their own businesses without majoring in business. Larry Page said he knew from the age of 12 that he was interested in technology and business, but he studied computer science. Sergey Brin, similarly, has no degree in business. Neither does Travis Kalanick or Marissa Mayer. On the flip side, a lot of tech giants - like Sheryl Sandberg and Marc Benioff - have business degrees, although Benioff learned how to program. (And obbiously, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates had no degrees at all - but they did have knowledge of software programming without much or any formal training in business.)

Secondly, even if you do decide you want a business degree - you can always major in science or engineering first and then get an MBA later, like Satya Nadella, Tim Cook, and Ellen Pao.

And thirdly, even schools that don’t have a formal combined program in business and engineering may have less formal ways for you to study the two together - like a major/minor, a certificate program or simply by taking a lot of classes.
