does anyone have experience with majoring in interdisciplinary studies?

it’s not the same thing as the honors lyceum thing. my son has the presidential scholarship and currently he’s majoring in spanish. he is thinking he’ll double major, but not sure what direction to go into yet. he feels spanish is his passion, but he also wants to have a career where he can use his skills for mission work. (not a missionary)

he knows some spanish majors go into teaching, translation, international business/law etc… he’s wondering if he should minor in french, but we’re not sure how marketable that would be. also concerned he may limit his career options. he’s very bright so he really could go into a lot of different areas. (for now he’s not thinking of medicine or law) does anyone have any ideas to share, please? thanks :)

I am also considering majoring in interdisciplinary studies. I will be a freshman this fall. I met with the program director, Dr. Kathryn Flynn. She was very nice and seemed like she truly cares about the students. However, be aware that the major is brand new, so there is no track record to show the success and employability of graduates. Dr. Flynn is working to grow the program, and she said that there has been a lot of interest. You choose 2 or 3 major emphasis areas, and there is an approval process that you have to go through. If you have more specific questions, I would contact her; her email is on the Auburn website somewhere.
