Interesting package from a Tier 2 Public Flagship

I think this is better than some of the private school offers we are getting. I expected more gapping from the large state schools.

OOS cost to us approx. 28K (includes spending, tuition, room & board, and books)

EFC – $12,000 (my bill as expected for twin 2)
Loans – $3,500 Stafford
Federal Work Study – $2,500
Merit Scholarship – $10,000 (renewable for 4 years)

100% of need met in a top 50 (US news) engineering school. This is kind of fun now that the paperwork is all done  Son is still nervous though lol.

Congrats drizzie!

Great news - congratulations! But I thought a top 50 US News school was in the top tier?

Thank you cheers and frazzled1

frazzled1–Tier 2 overall but top 50 in undergrad engineering (separate ranking).

Undergraduate Engineering ranking on US News eliminates the selectivity factor so for example Harvard drops all the way down to 30th

Wow, drizzit.
Now that is a great package. And from an OOS public. Truly amazing. I thought that OOS publics would be the worst for FA packages as most are committed to their in-state students. But your twins are deserving and will be an asset to whatever school they choose. Only $3500 in loans, great.

Congrats!!

I think it is possible to get a big scholarship from an OOS public. I just learned that one of my niece’s safety schools, which is an out of state public, gave her a very large scholarship. I know she won’t be attending but I can see why a large scholarship may be possible for students above the norm for a college as a way to entice them to attend.

That’s the nice thing about engineering schools–they are uniformly good.

back in the day (early 70s) I received an OOS full tuition scholarship from a Big 10 school – took it gratefully, got a great education and had a wonderful experience, especially coming from a different part of the country (East Coast urban girl to the Midwest).

congrats to your son!

DD1 got a pretty good package from U.Maryland. If I recall the offer dropped the tuition to in-state rates. She was admitted to the honors program, then the music dept. She had already decided on another school so I don’t recall exact $.
GREAT music program happening there.
