I’m sure many of you have read the article in the Daily Princetonian concerning the ED results. There’s an interesting quote from Rapelye: “The majority of students we defer, but we do let some students know that they should look at other schools if it is clear that they will not be competitive in the spring.”
What exactly does this mean? I was deferred ED, and all I got was the one-page deferral letter. Do some people actually get another letter saying that they don’t have a chance? If so, what’s the point of deferring these people in the first place?

I guess this is the whole “polite deferral” thing again. Some people are just deferred because:
- they are really not qualified but can’t be rejected because they are (maybe rich) legacies.
- a student from your school who was less qualified than you got in (maybe athletic recruitment). it would look really bad if you got rejected outright, so they just defer. Maybe they can really only take one person from your school, so they had to do that.

These are the only things that people have mentioned so far, I think. So it really doesn’t apply to most people. If you were deferred, you were simply deferred.

I think she meant that they did reject some students because “it is clear that they will not be competitive in the spring.”

hmm…yeah. but still there was a 30% acceptance rate which is still pretty damn high.

I got the feeling that that was a nice way of saying they reject people, rather than just deferring them.

Can anyone post a link to that article? I can’t seem to find it

Wait…let’s go back and address the first question.

Was/is there two deferral letters? My daughter threw hers out, (although I seem to recall my husband saying he somehow got it and put it away).

I vaguely remember her letter saying something positive…although I could be wrong.

Next…did they actually send out Rejection Letters at All???

If so, does anyone have any idea how many kids were outright rejected???

Thanks for your thoughts.

I believe that what she said was just a polite way of saying that they were rejected.

bump bump bump

I heard that there were two letters. I ripped mine up but I don’t remember anything about other schools…

hahaha, mommypain- i liked that bump bump bump

i may be branded for this, hahaha, but does that remind anyone of a song?

come on! B2k! “You know I like it when your body goes bump bump bump”

hey! i like that song! its catchy…no?

Yea they were an R&B boy band, very strange.

Yes. They call it the “rejection letter”, but Princeton sends relatively few of these.

NO B2K! For the love of God, no!

b2k…that reminds me of that group with the chick who had a really huge lisp. when she goes “promithizz, promithizz”

bwahahahahaha! gasp chokes dies

I have no clue what you’re talking about, but that was the funniest thing I’ve read on here in a long time.

3LW!!

Some clever sod with a sordid sense of humour gave this one girl with a lisp the job of singing the line “Im gettin a little tired of your promises promises”.

Plus in the music video you get the added bonus of a close-up so u can marvel at her bizarre, handicapped lips in full motion.

Nice. Very nice. marvels

Noooooo. Not the rejection letter. Doesn’t anyone recall people claiming that there were two different deferral letters back in December after everyone got their notices??? Am I crazy?? (ok, don’t answer that).

I seem to remember people talking about two deferral letters.

AND WHEN WILL WE FIND HOW MANY GOT DEFERRED VS. REJECTED BACK IN DECEMBER???
