Interlochen Arts Camp uniforms

Student is going to Interlochen for the first time. Buying only the suggested amounts of each of the uniform pieces is about five hundred dollars. Do campers really need the suggested amounts, especially since there is a laundry service?

It really depends on what major your child is!

Dancers and theatre majors change into rehearsal attire for almost the entirety of their week, so they need fewer uniform pieces.
Those that don’t change generally are fine with 3-4 blue shirts, 1 white shirt, 3 shorts, 2 pants! Hope that helps.

There are also parents groups that sell gently used uniforms for very cheap.

Thanks for that advice…that quantity is far less than they say students need!
Do you recommend buying the bedding from them, or it is OK to just bring it from home?

It’s definitely OK to bring them from home!

The only thing we bought from Interlochen were the shirts, belts, socks, and laundry bags.
Pants, shorts, bedding, and everything else we brought ourselves.

I got so excited when I saw Interlochen! BRbway is right–the only thing you need to buy from Interlochen officially are shirts and socks (belts for buys). Only buy a laundry bag if you’re doing the laundry service. Personally, I preferred doing my own laundry, especially since it meant I didn’t have to bring as many clothes (I could wash more than the once a week the laundry service came).

Absolutely everything else you should bring. Especially shorts. Theirs are just…well…ugly. The quantities of clothes BRbway suggested are just about spot on, though I’d recommend 4-5 shorts and only one pair of pants (it can get chilly–last year we had 50-degree days), but I was fine with one pair. Of course, this also depends on what your child (btw…guy or girl? that might affect some of this advice) prefers. Some people just like pants. Personally, I think shorts and knee socks are adorable, so it depends.

I’d love to help with any other questions you have. I’m a slightly overeager Interlochen alum (creative writing, though I’ve roomed with dancers, every instrument imaginable, visual arts, vocal, etc) who would love to help!

BRbway I found your post extremely helpful. I have tried to find used uniforms but have not had any luck. Will you please send me the link ASAP! Thank you!

Where do you find these parent groups that sell gently used uniforms? My daughter is a dance major for this summers session…

Hi! If you are successful finding a source for used uniforms, would you be so kind and send along that information? I have a high schooler attending for three weeks this summer and would love to save a few dollars. Thanks.

She might try joining the FB group–there are usually alums eager to sell old uniforms.

glasses–what is the FB group (forgive my ignorance)? Thanks for responding.

loves2write,
there is usually a Yahoo parents group set up by Interlochen that has used uniforms for sale. Info should be in packet you get from Interlochen. Do you have a boy or a girl? If a girl, PM me, I may have uniforms you can use.

My daughter attended in Middle School and I too have uniform in a closet. Would love to know where I can sell them!

I would really like to find used uniforms for my 11 year old daughter going to Interlochen this summer. Is there a web sight? How would I get to other parents that might be happy to get ride of these? What does she really need to take?
Interested, Mom

hshipp–if you go to the Interlochen summer arts program website and scroll way down on the left-hand side, past topics like request information, how to apply, faculty, frequently asked questions, etc. you will see a heading for Parent Resource Center. Click on that and you will get to the area where there are forms, etc. Keep going down and at the bottom of that page is a section that let’s you join a yahoo parent information group; they are set up by divisions (middle school, high school, etc). It is a forum for raising a range of questions about the summer programs, and there are a number of families buying/selling uniforms. We are in the process of buying used high school sized uniforms for my daughter’s first summer at Interlochen, and through that yahoo site I have made contact with several parents interested in selling used items.

I know the demographic probably isn’t quite right, since this seems to be geared for college/HS students, but my sons were Junior/Intermediate campers at Interlochen, and I have two boxes of nearly new uniforms (you’re quite right–you don’t need as many as they say they do) – but I’ve been unable to find a site that will help us recycle these. Some uniform shirts/shorts/pants/sweatshirts have never been worn, or worn for very little and are in excellent condition. Does anyone know any younger campers who may need uniforms? We have mostly youth mediums and larges; shorts sizes from 8 slim to size 14 (cargos and traditional); also belts, socks, etc…in short–everything a camper needs, except for bedding and towels!

@bach2rach My 13 year old will be attending this summer. How large are the shirts? How long are the shorts. Can you measure the waste and length? How much do you want to sell them for.

bach2rach,
I read that you have youth-size shirts. If they’re still available, I may be interested in purchasing them. My daughter is attending for the first time this summer and wears a Youth Large.

Thanks,
rhonda

I have a 14 year old that will be attending Interlochen for the first time this summer (Musical Theater) for three weeks. I am looking to purchase gently used uniforms. Please contact me if you have any items size Adult small or medium for sale. Does anyone know how the polos run (big/small/regular)? Thanks. I appreciate any feedback!

You might try calling the Interlochen shop directly and talking to them about sizing. I made the mistake the first time of ordering without doing that and I incurred huge shipping fees back and forth to exchange. As I recall, some items ran large and others ran small (I’m sorry that I can’t remember the specifics of the polos). Most helpful tip on this thread was to buy the navy shorts from other sources, because the fabric on the Interlochen shorts is disgusting.

Also, BRbway was completely right about the quantities for the polo shirts.
