I’ve been playing trumpet for a couple years now and am seriously thinking about applying for the Interlochen Trumpet Institute program ([Trumpet Institute | Interlochen Summer Arts Camp](http://camp.interlochen.org/content/trumpet-institute)).

However, I’ve heard that selection can be competitive and am not completely sure about my skill level. For those of you who have been to Interlochen who play trumpet, what exactly is the range I should have? I’m in 10th grade and play in a concert band with other students who have been playing since primary/middle school, and while I have been playing for 2-3 years I am just as good as most of my classmates. My range is currently at maximum G, but honestly I often can only play to F after playing for a while, and if I’ve been playing for longer even F can be a stretch. However, I can play with a good full tone and know a fairly decent amount of music theory (I play piano and am preparing to take the Grade 5 theory exam soon).

Am I good enough to be applying to Interlochen?
