If you apply as a transfer to northwestern, would you be able to internally transfer to a different department, like economics? How does this process work, anybody know?

Adding/dropping majors within a school is easy. Just fill out a sheet of paper. Doing so outside of your school is harder.

When you apply you don’t declare your major, you don’t have to do this immediately. You only declare the school you apply to. Within your school you have 2 years to choose a major.

The only involving process is if you want to transfer SCHOOLS to switch majors. For me it was easy- sending one email the summer before freshman year started, and they did it quickly. If you wait until school starts it’s probably somewhat more complicated, but nothing too bad. (Unless you’re transferring INTO Medill- that’s not guaranteed.)
