international 2014 sat biology discuss answers

what past paper for biology they would use for 2014 may 3

All I know is I just came back home from the SAT Bio exam and I feel like drowning in my own tears.

That is all.

Remember not to talk about specifics of the test.
I found it generally easy myself. There were a couple iffy ones but I went home to check if I guessed right and I did so I’m happy.

I feel like this test was bad :(

most of the questions were ecology related generally, and it even were as relevant as Barron’s or PR’s

plus I hate biomes and the biomes were there right at the start. :(((((((

How much do you have to get right to score at least above 700?

I missed 7 and I guessed on a lot. I calculated that I can have up to 8 wrong to still have a 700, using Barron’s scaling.

And yes! There was way too much ecology, which sucked for me because I concentrated on molecular while studying. Biomes were a pain. The experimental ones were a pain, too. I had no idea how to do the one with the gel, even though I studied about it in Barron’s book.

every one post the questions and we should discuss the answers

the most diverse species ( mammals arthropoda mollusca …) answer?

Erm, what was the one about the bacteria and reproduction? I vaguely remember there being both conjugation and binary fission. And as far as Barron’s book goes, bacteria do both I believe

@burning00 I kind of guessed on that one and said anthropoda. I just remembered that they included insects and I recalled my biology teacher mentioning how insects were the most diverse. Could be wrong, though.

yes, insects definitely
Anyone took M? what’s the answer for the last qs or second last qs

@davinia Was it an experiment? Or were they linked? I recall that I put cell wall and cellulose on two of them. It was kind of a guess, but it seemed like the most logical answer.

Hey guys do u remember the question of plasmid and that electrophorisis??? There were like fragments…do u have any idea what u put in that one…and yeah what about the metamorphosis question about grasshopper?

@givingsatexam I completely skipped the electrophoresis ones. It was so challenging, but Barron’s book made it seem so easy! Ugh.

On the grasshopper I just put that it made the young ones look like adults. I’m not too sure, I remember I was torn between that answer and another one. But I did recall my biology teacher saying something including a frog, deficiency of a hormone and growth being linked, so I figured it might be the same ><

i did do the electrophorosis question…what about that question related to albino carotene and choices were like
ccMM crossing with I dont know but it was sth like that.

what do u guys think will the the curve be less harsh?? because honestly this test was tough… :frowning: if it would be less harsh then how much marks will we have to obtain in order to get 700? any idea?

and yeah what about the darwin’s theory??which one did you pick?

@givingsatexam Barron’s curve tends to be harsh (I think?) and a 64-ish raw score was a 700 on there. I have no idea how CB does their curve, though.

I completely guessed on the albino question! Like omg, the proctor just said ‘‘pencils down’’ and I circled the first thing I saw because I had so many blanks and didn’t want to have one more. I think I did the CcMm x CcMm though because of the independent assortment and Barron’s book using that as an example :expressionless: I don’t get albinos.

As for Darwin’s theory, I think I picked the one that said something that pretty much described natural selection. Something about the individuals not it to survive in the environment becoming extinct and the better ones taking their place?

But I find relief in knowing I’m not the only one who thought the test was challenging. Are they always this way?

I dont remember if there was CcMm CcMm in the choices…cz all i remember is that i was looking for the choices
which had small c and m in both the alleles…anyways I feel i messed up :frowning: what about darwin’s question what did u get for that? yeah u r right we all have faced problems in this paper…according to kaplan book the score scale for 700 is 61ish sth…I dont know how much less harsh they will make the curve because after seeing the threads
I realized that evryone didnt go really well in this. :(

And no i dont think they are always this way…I feel that january sat papers are pretty easy…cz one of my friends
she got really good score in those ones.i feel like regretting in doing this sat on may…may june sat papers are always tough :(
