International Chance

Good morning,

I’m Rorry from Romania, and i’m 23 years old. I’m currently studying for the SAT’s and SAT subject tests, that i will be taking in November. I am in a somewhat unheard of situation and i’d like some feedback from other students who have gone through this international application process. I am also interested in other people/students (studying in US) opinion regarding my plan of studying and chances to get into the colleges i’ve been looking into.

So my highschool GPA isn’t that good, I will find out for sure in june, but i’m aproximating it at about 2.00-2.50 gpa (that means grade 7 out of 1-10- 10 being the highest-) I’ve changed hs twice and the transcripts vary. I’m relying to get accepted as an international student on the high SAT scores that i am aiming at,aswell as TOEFL and also some personal savings for a college tuition. (one year for starters)

The SAT scores i’m aiming are between 690 and 780. (realistic figure) . I know that the admission criterias vary in importance between colleges so i’ve looked for some that would be in my advantage given the circumstances i’m in.

I’ve narrowed down the list of colleges to 8. These are:

Carnegie Mellon Univ
Philadelphia Univ
Washington Univ St Louis
Rider Univ
Hastings College
The univ of Chicago
Warner Pacific College
Univ of Connecticut

I’m still researching for colleges so any advice thrown out there about a college/univ you think i should get interested in is much appreciated. Also other advices on how I could increase my chances of being admitted.

Thank you for the time
Rorry

Oh an i’ve forgot to mention that from the age of 18 i’ve been working constantly, and also planning on volunteering this summer. ( I know colleges look for EC too, personality, quality traits etc.) So the only thing that would back me down would be my GPA… :frowning:

Thanks,
Rorry

These chances assume a 2150 on the SAT. Do you ask for Financial Aid?

CMU: Reach (GPA far too low for realistic chance)
Philadelphia U: Low match
WUSTL: Reach (GPA far too low for realistic chance)
Rider U: Low match
Hastings: Low match
U Chicago: Reach (GPA far too low; even stellar essays can’t save you)
Warner Pacific: Low match
UConn: Match

What I can advise you to do: obtain a stellar GPA at one of Hastings, Warner Pacific or Philadelphia U (UConn if you can get in) and then attempt to transfer to U Chicago, WUSTL or CMU.
