Hello everyone,
I will be applying few big colleges like HYP next year as an international student. I have a very low income around 5k but luckily i made myself good enough to apply these colleges. Anyway, if i get into my college is there a %100 chance i will get full aid because seriously top i can afford is %00.01 of the tuition. Since these colleges have big budgets, i wonder if it is guarenteed or not?
Thanks for the answers in advance!
Your first hurdle will be to gain acceptance. Those very generous colleges accept a very small percentage of applicants. Less than 10% of those who apply are accepted. The %age of international students accepted is even smaller, probably hovering around 5%. In the 90-95% of rejected students, there are many many well qualified applicants. Many. Your acceptance to these schools is not a slam dunk by any measure or means.
When you say you have a low income…is that your student income or is it your family income. Your parent income will need to be provided for undergrad need based aid.
And some of these schools are need aware for admissions for international students. This means your ability to pay will be considered when your application for admission is reviewed.
Having said all that…IF you get admitted, your aid will mostly be met. These schools do expect a student comtribution, and this can be several thousand dollars. And some of these schools do not pay in full for your transportation costs from your country to this one.
So…yes, apply…but look for an affordable alternate plan as well.
