Hey guys, I am a Mechanical Undergrad in University of British Columbia based in Vancouver, Canada.

I’ve completed my first two years and have currently a GPA of 80%. I will be doing a one-year coop term starting this September and hopefully graduate in May, 2017.

I am considering my choices for grad schools and I have a few dream schools:
- UC Berkeley
- Princeton
- U of Tokyo
- ETHZ (Switzerland)

I am an international student, hence tuition would really be a problem as my parents have already spent so much financing my undergrad, which is the main reason I am hesitant to apply for UCB and Princeton since it would be really hard to get funding in such competitive programs.

U of Tokyo has a MEMS program which accepts a fair number of international applicants each year. I still have to find out more about that yet. Also if I set my eyes on this, I would have to improve my Japanese (not a big deal though).

ETHZ again requires me to learn a foreign language, but that’s fine, only that I need to decide early if it should be Japanese or German. I have foundation in both but it requires much more devotion to get really good in a language.

I am also considering TU Munich (mostly because I love Bayern Munich) and also TU Stuttgart (coz I want to get into Mercedes Benz eventually) in Germany. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

It’d be highly appreciated if someone that has gone down a similar road could share his/her experience with me. Thanks in advance!
