Got an acceptance from all the above universities but pretty confused on the financial aspect. Virginia Tech does not offer scholarships to international students, ASU gave a 7000$ scholarship . ISU a 40,000$ scholarship and MSU 98,000$ Scholarship. Which school would be the best fit?
Do the employers in your country care where you study?
Are the scholarships you listed for one year or for all four years?
Do you need to maintain a specific GPA in order to keep your scholarship?
Compare the numbers here: http://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletter.phtml
Remember, if you cannot demonstrate that you have the full cost of your first year of studies covered, you won’t get your student visa.
Thank you so much for your reply … Yes, the employers in India care where we study . These scholarships are a total for four years and for continuing them I need to maintain a 3 gpa… I would also like to ask which of the above universities have an extensive course for mechanical?
Each university has links on its websit to the requirements for each major, and to the course catalogue that lists all of the courses offered there. In the US, the core content of engineering classes and of engineering majors is defined by ABET. There is very little difference from one engineering program to another. That means you ndeed to dig a little bit deeper. Are there different general education or university graduation requirements at these different universities? Are different engineering elective courses availalbe? What research projects are the engineering professors engaged in (check their web pages for links to recent publications)?
What MSU? Where are all of these colleges located? How do you feel about cold winters?
Hey ! So this is coming from an international student at Rutgers pursuing BS in Aerospace & Mechanical engineering. All the schools you listed above are strong and comparable. But after years of experience in the USA, I would like to point out the three most important points.
- Tuition (Based on scholarship)
- Location (Strategic location of a school near to certain companies can give a good chance of internship or job)
- The strength of engineering program
Based on the 1st parameter:-
- Michigan State
- Iowa State
- Arizona State
- Virgina Tech
Based on the 2nd parameter:-
- Arizona State
- Michigan State
- (Shared) Vtech and Iowa State
Based on the 3rd parameter:-
- Vtech
- ASU and MSU
- ISU
→ Michigan State has a decent engineering program, good research, and good reputation with employers.
→ Arizona State has a good engineering program, great research, and good reputation with employers.
→ Vtech as it has a great engineering program, great research, and decent reputation with employers.
→ Iowa State as it has a decent engineering program, great research and decent reputation with employers.
It’s based on whether you want to get employed after graduation. Seeing the amount of scholarship, reputation and program I would go with Michigan State. Remember, all these are big schools because they are state universities.
