I’m having some trouble making my “Why Brown?” essay reflect the desire I have to go there. Does anyone know anything about these two fields of study that would be useful for it? I’ve read a Brown Daily Herald on how Int’l Relations is a program, not a department, and that there are huge classes and long thesis requirements.

I don’t know much about the English/writing program other than that Brown has produced some well known and well respected writers and the department is highly regarded at the graduate level. Combine that with Brown’s strong emphasis on undergraduate teaching and I can only imagine that you would have a wonderful time pursuing the field here.

International Relations is a concentration (what Brown calls majors) organized through the Watson Institute of International Studies. It is an interdisciplinary field that offers three tracks. I highly recommend that you do some research.

Visit the Watson Institute’s website: [The Watson Institute for International Studies](http://www.watsoninstitute.org/)

Research the faculty that are affiliated with the Institute. Read their bios and CVs and learn about their areas of research interest.

Review the concentration, it’s various tracks and their requirements, and the courses that fulfill those requirements.

Track requirements can be found here: [International Relations at Brown : IR Requirements](http://www.watsoninstitute.org/ir/requirements.cfm#the_tracks)

Descriptions of the courses can be found:
In the course catalog: https://selfservice.brown.edu/ss/bwckctlg.p_disp_dyn_ctlg
Or on Mocha: [Welcome - Mocha](<a href=“mochacourses.com - This website is for sale! - mochacourses Resources and Information.”>Loading...)

Aside from being one of the most popular majors on campus it appears to be, in my opinion, one of the most dynamic, offering flexibility within a demanding framework that attracts some of the brightest minds in the field, both students and faculty alike.

Good luck!
