International Relations/Studies & Model United Nations

Is being an active member of the Model United Nations as an undergraduate a worthwhile extracurricular activity for those who wish to apply to the top International Relations/Studies Graduate Schools? If you were accepted into one of these highly-ranked programs, could you please list the activities you participated in and to what degree you were involved in each. What extracurricular activities would you recommend for someone in my position?

Thanks!

I decided not to pursue an IR degree, but I think my MUN experience has helped me to get into LSE for an MPA. You’ll learn skills in MUN that are lifelong (ie public speaking, logistics, critical thinking, diplomacy, and you get to travel). I think for the amount of time that goes into something like MUN, the pay-off will definitely help-especially if you’re good enough to win awards in your committee.

Of course, join up and feel it out for yourself. You can always quite whenever you’d like. If anything, you’ll meet some people with similar interests and aspirations and seek their advice as well (although you can probably extrapolate what they will tell you :P).

Cheers.
