<p>I’m an incoming international student. What do I need to get done (visa and immigration wise) for going to school? My familiy plan to take a detour to NY before I head off to school in DC so when I enter NY would I be showing my student visa and stuff or will I do that only when I fly in to DC from NY???</p>

<p>if NYC is your first point of entry…then yes, you will have to show all your documents at NYC.
make sure you have the following:
- passport
- i20
- financial documents
- gtown docs ie acceptance letter and all…and your residential address.</p>
<p>nyc is known to harass people…especially international students so you have to be careful, and pls make sure you have all the necassary documents.</p>
<p>i am from pakistan so i have to be doubly careful.</p>
<p>i take it you have received your i20 and your student visa? if you havent…then i think you are kinda screwed…you havent mentioned your i20 at all…coz you seem kinda clueless…</p>
<p>anyway…you must have received a form to be filled in in order to receive your i20…once you fill it in…you send it off and you get your i20…and then you apply for your visa…</p>
<p>this entire process took me about 6-8 weeks…coz i am pakistani…so it took a long time to process.</p>
