thx @corrinder94 anomaly was also in the scientists passage i think… about the ireegular experiment result

btw i cannot remember the question about the texture or color in the bat passage…can anyone else recall???

Oh, it wasn’t about color red. It was why the bird of paradise was mentioned? Because of its… I say because of its feather ornamentation and coloring. Texture doesn’t fit.

@dunghy
as unused as i am to the surprising maturity in your tone as of right now, i will choose to explain to you. assurance= attitude, basically. deft and painstaking are not opposites, in context of the passage. painstaking would be careful or thorough, deft would be proficient.

Man, I hope you’re good at math.

@AimingAt750 i thought the author mentioned body surfaces that are Subtly textured and the “Plumage” of a bird of paradise…so i choose texture…but you guys maybe right since you all agreee…

I don’t know how it can be explained any better… Totally agree with Dunghy on this:

“assurance” means confidence, which has nothing to do with painstaking. Deft is also a near opposite of painstaking, as it means quick and swift instead of careful and meticulous.

miasanmia, you should learn to pay attention to the structure of the passage. Why things are mentioned, with what intention? She was thinking of French painter because of his skill. She wanted to achieve the same skill (it was an example to her, hence “exemplary”). She wasn’t thinking of him because of his drawing attitude but because of his skill.

agree on the exemplary skill

She wanted to achieve the same skill (it was an example to her, hence “exemplary”

^thats just plain presumption. but you know what, im done with this little tug of war here. when the scores come out we’ll see who gets the last laugh. this was not even that hard a question to begin with.

Well yeah , FOR SURE i could’ve done better sucks i still have to revise when i would’ve been chilling i can’t put it into words how much i wanted to beat him up seriously it’s such a selfish act i mean he coughed too loud having his own comfort on others’ pain , i was surprised the invigilator didn’t act up he gave that prick a Strepsil. Also a teacher? i dont know who he is came up and asked “Is there anything wrong” , the invigilator said “No, just one kid who keeps coughing” the guy thought it was something trivial you know? I was dumb there too for not complaining because SURPRISINGLY everyone was acting normal then that kid (who coughs) starts playing with his shoes… I told this to my parents they would’ve believe it, GREAT. So the only way to proof that would be hang my self leaving a note behind saying what happened.

Sadly i thought it was a good test center my friend said it was good, i trusted her it could’ve been BETTER :/

Also how did you do i did alright, except i COULD’ve done better i don’t whether he coughed so loud or me being over exaggerated or too sensitive but im sure it wasn’t just me who was annoyed looking around hte class 3-4 people were irritated too.

In essence, i think the last section’s the hardest.

*** are u talking abt lol

@miasanmia, if 9/10 people on a website full of high-scoring students side against you on a question, how can you not accept that your answer is wrong, especially as we’ve already determined you have at least another 6-7 mistakes on CR that we have covered so far.

How are you going to get a last laugh if your score is already guaranteed to be below 700?

@muangs

Went okay, I missed two questions on CR because I mistakenly thought the section was finished, and the idiotic thing was that I made this mistake once before. Anyway, still expect something like: CR: 750, WR: 700-750, M: 550-600 - so somewhere arund 2000 hopefully, maybe a little less (yes, I’m ****ty at math, and the essay is going to kill me).

Anyway, you can always retake it, yeah? Just choose a different test center next time :p

miasanmia, yes, I think we should leave that question already. I know my results won’t be good cause I left 3 blanks and I know I answered 4 vocabulary questions wrong. Who knows, maybe I made a few mistakes more :-/

Alright, think about this for a sec:
Lulled into a dreamy daze by the rain-patter on the glass, she is thinking about the old French priest from their outing; about the deft assurance with which those meaty hands captured a flowers frail beauty. The same feeling she’d had then—a thrill, blended with longing—fills her, and almost without thinking about it she pages past the day’s vocabulary in her copybook.

What are we contrasting here?
Meaty hands with frail beauty. Ok, possible.

Where might be an analogy?
She was lulled into a daze and thought about the french guy. She compares the feeling she had while in the daze with the one she had while watching the French guy. (The same feeling she’d had then…)

Please, explain why you think analogy is wrong. I’m like 50:50 between these two now…

I’ve encountered plenty of these: the question tells you to look at one sentence and the clue you’re looking for is somewhere in the vicinity.

@maxyend
first of all, you do not even come close as an authority on the critical reading sections. I do not regard you as the “high scoring” student you are. Some of your arguments have convinced but the majority of them have not. Your elitist poise irritates me very much as you assume that all you which you got right, I got wrong. Get your head out of your ass, if you’ll pardon my language. My score will be well above 700. That is for certain. I can list a few, for example, the last Bat question, the global warming question, the french painter question, etc.

to avoid further strife and tension, please stop the iniquitous BS that is the presumtous words coming from you on your high chair. We should probably move onto other questions as we are not going to come to a consensus on the ones we have discussed. Is that plausible to everybody?

I put personification (frail beauty of the flower) but looking at it again I’m certain it’s contrast.

^explain your reasoning, please. Because mine brings me to these two, but not further.

‘meaty hands’ and ‘frail flower’ - meaty indicates thick, strong, whereas frail means thin and weak - additionally ‘meaty hands’ contrasts sharply with ‘beautiful flower’, one is somewhat disgusting, the other is, well, beautiful.

I was reading the passage backwards, and stopped when I saw ‘frail beauty’, if I read a little more I would have seen meaty hands and put in contrast, but sadly I didn’t.

^I understand where the contrast is. But tell me why you think it cannot be analogy? Where does my reasoning fail?
