International SAT October 2012: Y U NO discuss?

^Corrinder, the answer was “Effortlessly and naturally”. We are able to echolocate (as the passage said with the mathematical calculations in a cave to find the difference, bla bla, you remember.

In the segment itself it underlines that it IS about effort

@Duffman, what was the “expanding on a larger point” an answer to? What were some of the other answers?

Does anyone remember a Critical Reading question with one of the options as mercenary?
I can’t remember which one it was, but I wasn’t sure of the answer.

@maxyend

do you happen to rmb the whole question?

Hey guys, I compiled a list of possible answers for CR, hope it helps.
√=highly likely I guess…

Chinese women:
-Contrast/Personification/Metaphor? I’m pretty sure it’s contrast (meaty vs delicate)
-Urge to create√
-teacher student relation√
-Reaction: disbelief/suspicion vs surprise and pleasure? (pretty sure its the latter)
-exemplary skill √
-Emergence of talented artist√
-elated and abashed√
-Studied and spontaneous √
-shadow was a tinge√
-didn’t want the husband to see her not doing calligraphy√

Bats:
-Striking Flamingo√
-Flying birds using magnetic fields would probably **** scientists off√
-Color of feathers √
-Humans can effortlessly see√
-uncomprehending (most likely) √
-transcending human perspective √ (why did i write echolocation!?!)
-Fundamental laws√

Blues:
-Music was expressive √
-enforcing 2 different approaches vs hate? (pretty sure it’s diff. approach)

-Spectacle √
-Sarcasm√
-amateurism√

Short passage (women inventing):

-languorous√
-childish√
-Neutral/biased √
-arrest/sequestered√
-baleful√
-incongruous√
-stodgy-quirky√
-paranoia√

@corrinder

the emphasis of the question was on “difficulty”, I think "why don’t humans have the “difficulty” "?
(line “and nobody has
ever had any difficulty in believing that little animals can see”)

@Fwabbin, we haven’t agreed on incensed.

Definitely seems to be uncomprehending, not incensed.

I still hope it’s disbelief/suspicion, but I’m not sure about it.

Oh, dang, gotcha. Thanks!

fwabbin, what was the sc with ‘stodgy’ as the answer? Also, ‘Urge to create’ - what were the other possibilities?

I believe stodgy came up with quirky. Yeah, sorry I compiled all that really quickly based on what’s been said. I’m not too sure about the other possibilities, sorry.

I don’t remember either stodgy, quirky or paranoia. Are we sure that wasn’t experimental?

does anybody know the answer of the math question that asks for how many possibilities without getting 2 x’s in each row?

@Maxyend
They were probably in the experimental section. The sentence with paranoia had something to do with the isolation and suspicion of a man leading him to become _______. So yeah if you don’t remember that it was probably the experimental section.

@linjennifer960

I’m 99% sure that the answer to that was 6.

Hello everyone, mm I am new to this site but i liked your discussions about the last SAT exam… I would like to ask someone ( a high-scoring student on SAT) to help me please, any responds??

yep, the answer was 6.

Can anyone remember the answer choice ‘to move onto a larger point’ in the college athlete passage? I think the question asked the purpose of the last paragraph of passage2.
I chose ‘to move onto a larger point’ because the author moves on to talk about that the government should spend more money on academics instead of sports, which is his main argument. (in previous paragraphs, he merely disagrees with paying college athletes)

welsnehf, I’m pretty sure the right answer to that question was “shift terms of discussion”

No responds?? @ Maxyend?? @ fwabbin ?

Can someone explain why ‘shifting terms of discussion’ is better than ‘moving onto a larger point’???
