Can anyone recommend a college guidebook that includes schools worldwide (perhaps with an emphasis on english-speaking universities)? Most of the ones I’ve seen are limited to the US and Canada.

I don’t know about other English-speaking countries, but most major newspapers in the UK publish their own university guides, e.g. [the Independent](http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/single.htm?ipg=6605), [the Guardian](<a href=“University guide | The Guardian”>http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/universityguide), and [the Times](<a href=“The Times & The Sunday Times: breaking news & today's latest headlines”>www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/education/gooduniversityguide/).

Keep in mind that, in the UK, you must normally choose a specific major (or, more rarely, a double major) when you apply for university admission. Accordingly, most British higher education guides rank the different universities not only by overall quality, but also for each individual major. That gives prospective students a much better grasp of which subjects are particularly strong or weak at each school.
