ESSAY:

—> I was thinking of talking of Mauritius as a multi-faceted country and how it has influenced me + my experience as captain of the volleyball team of LCQB (my beloved secondary (high) school). (would that make me standout? :S or do i need something that weighs more?)

APPLYING FOR NEED BASED FINANCIAL AID!!!

oops i forgot…3 impressive teacher recs!

You seem really interesting and nice… your stats are a little low but not detrimentally so, and Brown is a lot more about the holistic candidate than the numbers, anyways. So as long as you present yourself well, I think you have a great chance. Really, in your case, I think that being international will give you an advantage 'cause of diversity and blah blah blah.

As for your essay, the fact that you used the word “beloved” just in your description makes me think that this would be a great thing to write about, since your interest and excitement will shine through. :)

What languages do you speak? I checked on Wiki and apparently English is the official language but French is predominant in the media and a lot of people speak Mauritian Creole…? If you speak a few different languages fluently, that would be worth mentioning on your apps.

THANK YOU!

French is the language we all speak at school and in offices (its a compulsory subject uptill secondary school) but classes are all carried out in English and as you said, it is the official language.
Well, I do speak 4 languages, ie, French, English, Mauritian Creole (Most people in Mauritius do) + my mother is indian so i have been speaking and writing Hindi since childhood!

Wait that’s SO cool!!!

I tried to learn Hindi once but I pretty much just learned the script and never got around to building up my vocabulary. :(

Brown has Hindi classes, though…

Anyways, best of luck.

lol…its much easier when you grow up in that kind of environment! :P

Hey, thanks again!

Just wanted to give you a reality check: Brown is need aware for international students. Which means that your financial need is taken into account in admissions decisions. Many highly qualified international students are denied admission for this reason.

There are a handful of US colleges that are need blind for internationals – you should consider applying to these.
