Hello everyone!
I’m a black international student applying to 30/31 schools in USA. I applied to Howard EA. Got deferred from Howard despite gaining a 1540 on the SAT and being my school’s valedictorian. Do you think gunning for such a high number of schools (almost all are in the T50) would boost my chances of just getting one. Because all my schools meet full demonstrated need for internationals but some are need-aware
What country are you from? I’m not sure ethnicity/race matters for international admissions but country of origin might (if you are from a country with low representation in the US it could help at some schools). What schools are you applying to?
It is possible, but the odds of acceptance for any international student with major financial needs is low. You are basically asking a college in a foreign country to gift you all or part (depending on need) of a college education.
When you prepared so many applications, I hope you spent sufficient time to write thoughtful and meaningful essays for each school.
I wish you luck but also hope you explore options in your home country.
I’m from Nigeria!
Exploring options at Nigeria isn’t really a thought. I prefer HBCUs a lot to the best school here. The quality of education is really low
A full ride to a HBCU would also be a big reach. I wish you luck.
I would have said so myself but many are not giving scholarships to internationals anymore due to funding. But Thanks a lot!
Not necessarily.
What if I really worked on the supplemental and I think about 5 don’t even require supplements
You can apply to 67 HBCUs using https://commonblackcollegeapp.com/ and hope you get lucky with a full ride scholarship or something like that.
You may also want to check if international students are eligible for the following full rides:
- University Scholarships - Office of Scholarship Services
- https://www.aamu.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/scholarships/index.html
- Freshman Scholarships | Tuskegee University (probably not, since FAFSA is listed as being required)
Thanks so much!!
Do,the best you can on your applications. But please understand that more isn’t better in terms of increasing your chances of acceptance if your schools are all tippy top colleges.
And 30 applications? How in the world can you possibly do a superior job on each of these separate applications/essays? And customizing with AI (as you mentioned on your other thread) is NOT the way to go.
I did that by mistake to a school that had a deadline today. I forgot to add that out of these 30 schools, a lot are black schools that don’t even need a personal statement. Just grades. I’m not using scoir. Just the common app and I don’t think I’ve used all 20 slots. Maybe just 13 if you think about it
I’d be concerned when you are planning to do all of this. It’s January 1, very close to deadlines at all of the the T50 schools, each of which typically have a lot of supplemental essays to write. Do you have these completed already?
For the AI part, I understand it wasn’t the way to go but I had a very similar essay and I was minutes to the deadline. I don’t know if 1 essay will cause much harm. Will it? The school is kinda selective
Yes. I posted a comment just now
