<p>Hi, I’m a high school junior who is finishing up their college search. When I talked to a senior friend last week she told me something interesting: she was going to college in Canada. I have a few questions about a US student studying in Canada. 1) I know Canada won’t grant a student visa unless if you show proof you can pay, does that mean you can have loans or do you need cash? 2) In Canada, how long does it take to get a B.A? 3) What is the best school (as far as reputation) for science in Canada besides McGill?

<p>I’m not too sure if I can help you out with the information about visas and such…but I can tell you about Canadian schools that are strong in science. Firstly, McGill is a strong school but it is on a serious downward trend due to lack of funding/stubborn Quebecois political leaders. Your best bet for science/engineering is definitely the University of Toronto. Some other good schools are Queen’s, Waterloo, and UBC. But to be fair, the curriculum across Canadian universities is so standardized that the quality of education you will get from the school will not differ because of the academic reputation. The main factor you should base your decisions on when considering a Canadian university is the your personal fit with the school. That being said, there can be a disparity in the quality of the faculty which could sway one in favor of one school over another. Also, the standard length it takes to complete a B.A. is four years but im sure you can condense it (ie take courses in the summer/earn AP credits) or spread it out over more time.</p>
