International Student?

I graduated high school from Thailand last March 2010 and I moved here-to the US- with my mom. I am currently a permanent resident of DC, and a greencard holder, right now I am planning on continuing on to college which is really very confusing to me so I have to ask…

Since I graduated months ago, I have my records (which will be evaluated ASAP) and signed recommendations from teachers and school counselor here with me. Is it possible for me to just include them in the application without having to contact them-teachers and student counselor- (since it’s going to take a lot of time and money to have them send it again)

I don’t need any Visa from the school since I am dependent on my mother, am I still considered an international student?

If you have all papers and they are signed by the teachers/councelor then you can just post them to the colleges you are applying to. In case they are not signed you can ask your teachers to send them to the colleges directly online by assigning them to the school forms on the common application (won’t cost anything).

Don’t know.

You have a green card…you’re not an int’l student.

However, you have to live in the state for a year (probably) in order to get instate rates. So, wait until next fall to go to college.

Thank you very much for the answers

Students who graduate from high school in DC have special options for in-state tuition at certain public universities. I don’t know if that policy applies to students like you who only are living in DC. This rule exists because the only public university in DC (UDC) doesn’t offer very many programs. Are you living in DC because of your mother’s job? Could she commute to that job from Maryland or Virginia? If you and your mom move to Maryland, you will qualify for in-state tuition and fees at the community colleges after living there for three months. You can read about the details at [Montgomery College](http://www.montgomerycollege.edu) I don’t know what the rules are in Virginia.

Good luck!
