I have always heard that Internationals have to score significantly higher than domestic students on the subjects test. Is this the case even if the international student went to maybe a top 20 school in the US? I was checking the PhysicsGRE forum and the geenral consensus was that international should have around a 900+ because of advanced coursework yikes. But unfortunately I dont think I can get a score even remotely close close to that.

The explanation I have heard is that in some countries teaching and learning are based on rote memorization, which helps in subject GRE’s, but is not that useful in the real work (e.g. research). Thus, the score is discounted.

However, I have no idea if that applies to international students with UG degree from the US, or even all the international students instead of just few select countries.
