Hello all,
Please share if international studest coming out of Gies undergraduate programs are able to get internships and jobs.
@MYOS1634 what do you think? @Catcherinthetoast your thoughts?
An international student graduate will need to get OPT, and I’m not sure that will be an easy thing to do for a Gies grad.
Also, while in college, international students are on student visas, not work ones. Their ability to work is limited.
They can get a CPT for internships and save time used on OPT.
As long as the job is related to the major, an OPT can be obtained.
OP is asking about internships, but if you’re referring to working while the semester is in session then they’re limited to 20 hours a week.
The main challenge OP will face is getting permanent employment beyond the OPT because that requires a sponsoring employer.
And they are seeking a job where being international isn’t an issue
Yes if the job requires citizenship then clearly it’s out. Else, having an OPT suffices.
If you are asking about your home country, someone there in your intended field of study should know.
What exactly do you hope to do for work?
The OP was asking for information on a very small group of students - international undergrads at Gies (UIUC?). I think this question can be answered better by UIUC or more specifically Gies.
