International Studies Major - Job Opportunities?

I’m wavering between environmental engineering (UMD) and international studies (American). Can anyone discuss the prospective careers (specific) that are available to international studies grads? As well as the salaries? Thanks!

My daughter is planning to major in International Relations/Studies (possibly working toward a double major, or minor, in Political Science.) She also hoping to go on to law school, and possibly pursue a career in International Law.

There are tons of things you can do inside and outside of Washington DC that involve International relations (occasionally they will request a graduate degree in the field, but not always…) For specifics check out the CIA website, the State Department website, the UN website or the sites of any number of smaller international organizations or NGOs. Personally, I have found the most helpful and interesting to be the CIAs, but there is always FSO work with State, and Humanitarian or office work with the UN. It’s up to you to decide what exactly you want to pursue with your IR degree because for most employers, it is a great starting point for a wide range of internationally based careers
