How must I send in recommodations. Must my teachers and counselor send it seperately or must I include them with my application form

no, Fwoukje… almost all North-Western European countries are so. check the results of Belgium, Norway, Finland, France…

and the recomendations have to be sent by teachers seperately from your app.

I find that teacher recommodations weird. You can write it your own recommondations and send it seperatly to the university. How can my teacher proof it’s her?

(((meder))) yeah, I guess the nordic countries are the same in many ways as the netherlands, in terms of competitiveness in school and way of life i mean.

Sometimes i feel it’s a pity that we don’t have a competitive system here, on the other hand, i do well enough without it…and i guess in holland with thedifferent levels of high school education we just make a distinction earlier on that makes selection for uni unnecessary

though there are some pretty stupid people at my uni…cringe

Actually, you don’t have to be… Everything stable in your countries and the life flows constantly without any huge problems. Now, if we look at China, for example. They have 1.3 milliard people and everyone has to fight for the peace of bread (it was so until 90’s) and they are also too hard-working. so be happy that you live in such a beautiful country… where are you studying?

trinya, ???

(((meder))) i am assuming one f your comments was directed at me, if it wasn’t well, then disregard my answer ;)

Yes, i am very happy to live in my pretty little country. t is sometimes depressing though to see people slack all around me and getting virtually no recognition for the fact that i work so much harder. If universites would start selecting "at the gate’ as we call it here, they would be able to have more competitiveness, higher quality lectures etc.

Though i can’t complain, i read English at leyden, and it is considered the best university in the field in the netherlands.

I am very dissapointed in dutch education. Youre here not driven to get good result.
Everyone only think they must pass and not about how they pass only if they pass.
I dont like it here anymore and i hope I will be In america in 1/1/2 year

Hey, don’t go dissing holland on me. ;)

seriously, people on this board are very focused on results, and of course, to get into a USA school you have to be, but don’t forget that dutch education is

-much more tailored to individual needs
-when you finish the dutch vwo, you are a year ahead, knowledge wise, of a USA student with a high school diploma and 4 AP’s (generally, a public high School offers courses on Mavo level, private prep schools can be different)
-college is open for everyone here, everyone has the same opportunities.
-an excellent studetn in a Dutch university isn’t 'dumber" than an excellen student at an Ivy league. There is top research going on in Holland as well, but you have to remember that this is a smaller country, with less people and less private funding. The budget of Ivy Leagues are immense, there is jus more money going around.

This might sound weird, knowing that I’d love to go to the United States too, but you have to accept that each system has its merits.

My apologies for typo’s, i have a wonky keyboard with malfunctioning shift keys…and it sometimes skips letter no matter how hard i ram on my keys)

Fwoukje, it was.

Fwoukje, do you know anything about TUDelft?

I do, as a matter of fact. My University works closely together with Delft. I Delft’s Technical university has a good reputation for some disciplenes and a rather bad one for others. Let me see if I can find some links for you.

btw. what programmes are you looking at?

[TU Delft international pages](http://www.tudelft.nl/index.cfm/site/TU%20Delft%20Portal/pageid/66142C30-8C71-EDEB-0B3DAB237F2A7EDD/language/en/index.cfm)

Another very good Technical University is in the East of Holland, Twente. It is a campus university as opposed to Delft, and the area is more rural, howevwer, the university is in the bigger city of Enschede.

[Univesity of Twente](University of Twente (UT) | Research University in Enschede | The Netherlands)

If you need more info, just let me know. Holland is small, and there aren’t many uni’s so I can find out quite a lot about them.

Thanks, Fwoukje. I am just curious to know the architecture program at TUDelft, you know that’s probably one of the best architecture programs in the world.(seriously). I am wondering someday I can be there as an exchange student. Is that mendatory to speak Dutch there? I cannot understand Dutch at all.

I don’t knwo too much about the architecture programme, but I think Dutch is mandatory. I would try and get some information from the University itself if I were you, often there are speedcourses/intensive courses in Dutch you can/have to take before you start.

I do know the Architecture programme is the only one where there are about an equal amount of girls/boys. the other studies in Delft are very male-dominant.
