Are low SATs (under 2200) a huge problem for Britons applying (to top schools in the US)?

We do not get any instruction whatsoever (unless you’re at an ‘American school in England’); we do A Levels. As such, as a British student, I found the subject tests something of a joke but the SAT I siginificantly more difficult.

What are the chances of this being looked over? (given all the other parts of my application are of a very high standard except essays - I can’t judge my own essays and of course my peers/teachers will have been nice about them)

I agree with 082349 because English should be your primary language and despite everything SATs still carry some significant amount of weight. In addition, most Americans students do not receive instruction either (classes solely devoted to SATs are extremely rare). What are you struggling in? Purchase the official study guide offered by the College Board and do some practice tests.
