I find surprising that there are actually WP students posting here. I didn’t know that cadets are able to access Internet while in WP, as life in WP is incredibly austere and harsh. Where and when can WP cadets access Internet and what other communications to the outside world are allowed there?

Well, considering the military and not Al Gore, invented the technology which has evolved into what is now called; “The Internet”, I would think that even the academies would have access to it. If I’m not mistaken, the academies even have access to “Color TV’s” and “Telephones”.

I think you might be confusing having “Permission” as a new trainee and a cadet with a little time there. Each SA is different as is each class different. Also, each class is broken down into smaller units which also have different liberties and restrictions based on their performance.

During Reorgy Week (between the end of Beast and A-Day), new cadets are issued their laptops. As soon as they can hook up, they have Internet access. Also, each cadet has a landline phone with an individual phone number. The number will change each semester. Once cell phones are allowed - after Beast - you’ll just never know if they’ll work in your room or not. Seems to be hit or miss. Finally, skype is not allowed.

From what I understand AIM is also not allowed. The phone landlines are problematic at best. I could call in, but my cadet never found out the PIN needed to call out.

wpmom2011,

Perhaps there is consolation in knowing he’ll have a new phone number next semester. If he still can’t dial out, I’ll bet there is a way to get that PIN number. Perhaps his team leader can help him out.
