Internet Only providers and prices, for college student?

My son will be moving to an off campus apartment in the next couple of weeks. He and his roommate want to get internet only. They don’t want cable and they don’t want phone. Any ideas? If it matters, it’s university of Maryland, College Park.

It’s entirely possible that they only have one or two options to pick from depending on the area. If you google “internet providers near me” you’ll find plenty of sites that will tell you what options you have.

They also might want to check with the landlord as many apt complexes only allow one type of internet because that’s what they’re wired for.

When you have companies in mind, we’ll probably be more helpful :slight_smile:

Thanks Romani. My guess is he will go with Verizon. But sometimes people on CC have creative ideas.
He will be talking to the landlord this week.

See, I didn’t even know Verizon had internet! Haha

I literally just went through the internet thing switching from Comcast/Xfinity to Uverse (the workers were here all day on Friday rewiring my house to make it compatible for Uverse!). It is SUCH a PITA to weigh your options and figure out the least evil option of the bunch. Best of luck to him.

Does his complex offer anything? some do.

Is his phone with Verizon? If not, who is his phone provider?

Is this a cost that he and his roomie will be splitting? who is the phone provider for his roomie?

See if Uverse is available. However, at an apt, you may be limited.

Will they be doing a lot of streaming?

Happykid and housemates got some cheap deal with a provider I’d never heard of before in Towson. I expect there are a number of random carriers like that in College Park as well. Once they get to College Park, your son and his pals can google around for cheap internet providers using the free wi-fi on campus, and can ask the other people in their building for other ideas. They might find neighbors who are happy to share their server and split the bill.

Thanks all. I’m sure landlord will guide them. We all have Verizon phones, but he’s on our plan and not likely to change. I think roommate is Verizon also. They will share the bill.
